My inspiration comes from my own journey in 2012 where my hurried and worried life left me stuck in a cycle of overwhelm and self-doubt.
For many years, I was lost in the hustle of our culture. I felt overwhelmed with life and weighed down with expectations. Though I was always striving to be better, to do better, I never felt good enough. In my mind, I always came up short.
I was exhausted, unable to control my emotions, and I felt alone and unsupported.
Now I know I was experiencing symptoms of burnout that left me lacking joy and passion for my life and work.
I was following a path as a mother, wife, and non-profit leader that fulfilled my need to help others, but I was losing myself. The underlying stress was affecting my health, work, and relationships.
Something had to change.
Deep inside I knew there was a better way – a way that would bring fulfillment AND happiness.
So in order to safe myself, I got off the hamster wheel and put me on my list of daily priorities.
Working with a life coach to re-envision my life, I focused first on improving my health and emotional stability through yoga, meditation, and prayer. I worked on forgiveness – of others and of myself. It was through these healing practices that I felt like my soul had been awakened.
It began to feel like I was going with the flow of life rather than fighting against it.
That I was receiving rather than resisting. It felt easier. I realized I didn’t have to work so hard. I just had to open my eyes to see myself and the world through a new perspective.
Could it really be this simple?
Life is messy. Things happen all around us that we have no control over.
But, while we don’t have control over the circumstances of our life or the choices other people make, we do have control over how we respond.
We can each make the choice to let go of an old way of being in the world and to create a new way of being that opens our eyes to possibilities and abundance.
I saw firsthand how our beliefs become the lens through which we see the world and they create our reality. We can choose empowering or disempowering beliefs. This wisdom is timeless! In the year 57 A.D., the writer Paul explains it clearly in a letter he writes,
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
That approach worked for me, as I began to see my life and its purpose from a completely new perspective.
I learned that the peace, joy, and serenity we seek does not lie in the changing of our circumstances but rather in the changing of our hearts.
My calling became clear, to help other people find their way to some sort of peace and understanding in this crazy world.
In 2014, I joined the team of 2B Well Integrative Health and found myself on a new path of discovery as a teacher and a coach.
As a certified restorative yoga teacher since 2007, I encountered students in my classes in a place of burnout and stress, just where I had been.
They were often so busy taking care of everyone else that they had forgotten how to take care of themselves. Many were also seeking a deeper connection with themselves and God, just as I had.
I realized teaching restorative relaxation was so much more than providing rest.
It was guiding others along their own journey of discovery back to their true selves as spiritual human beings. And while each of these journeys are unique, they are not so different than my own.
Now, as a certified coach and member of the International Coach Federation, I guide my clients to feel empowered to live an inspired life, one that is rooted in authenticity and peace.
I help people grab hold of the strength and wisdom that is within to rewrite the plot of their life’s story and experience peace, purpose, and joy!
